CITY OF CHARLOTTE: Winter Weather Update
0Comments

City of Charlotte issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office is closely monitoring the low-pressure system off the coast of North Carolina that could impact the Charlotte area this afternoon with winter weather. At this time, one to three inches of snow is expected. All residents are encouraged to remain weather aware and stay tuned to the US National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC for updates to the forecast.

If travel is not necessary, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management asks residents to avoid driving during winter weather conditions. If you do have to be on the roads, please be extremely cautious and give first responders and Charlotte Department of Transportation crews plenty of room on the roads.

The Charlotte Department of Transportation has prepared for these conditions and will be treating the roads, as necessary. Crews are on stand-by with equipment loaded and ready. CDOT currently has an ample supply of materials to address the next winter weather event and have begun receiving shipments from its salt vendor to replenish what was used during the last storm. CDOT crews have been performing maintenance on snow equipment and prepping material stockpiles to prepare for these conditions.

If you have an emergency, please dial 911. Call 311 if you have questions about impacts to City of Charlotte services. 311 will remain open until 7 p.m., today, Friday, Jan. 21, and will reopen business hours on Monday, Jan. 24.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management and the Shelter Task Force continue to work together to support the needs of people experiencing homelessness during this extreme weather event. Expanded shelter capacity at the Roof Above and the Salvation Army Center of Hope will be available through Sunday, Jan. 23. Charlotte Area Transit System buses will transport individuals to these shelter locations free of charge through Sunday, Jan. 23 during the day along pre-existing routes. Riders must simply identify a shelter location to the driver.
