Duke Energy Renewables offers solar industry scholarships to those out-of-work due to COVID-19

Duke Energy Renewables created a $10,000 scholarship fund for individuals out of work due to the economic downturn to COVID-19 created, allowing them to train with Solar Energy International (SEI).

The scholarship fund will cover both the online and in-person training provided by SEI for individuals interested in training in the solar energy field, Duke Energy Renewables said in a June 23 release

"As commercial solar energy continues to grow across the country, trained solar technicians to manage solar facilities and technology are in high demand,” Chris Fallon, vice president of Duke Energy Renewables, was quoted as saying in the release.

The solar industry in the U.S. currently employs approximately 240,000 workers, the release said.

A successful scholarship application will require demonstrated interest in working in the solar energy field in the U.S., as well as demonstrated economic need, according to the release.

Applicants can find information about the Duke Energy Renewables scholarships at www.solarenergy.org/scholarship-funds.
