Town of Cornelius issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

This afternoon Cornelius & Davidson Fire were dispatched to a possible structure fire on Washam Potts Rd in Station 1’s first due. 

Engine 6 and Hook & Ladder 44 arrived to find a vehicle fire in a carport on the C side of the home. E6 began suppression while H&L44 checked for extension and completed a primary search. 

Engine 4 arrived and established a water supply. Davidson Engine 1 was assigned as the rapid intervention crew shortly before a control time was transmitted. Crews found no extension into the home. 

The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshals Office is handling the investigation.
