Town of Cornelius issued the following announcement on May 16.

Join the Town of Cornelius and American Legion Post 86 as we honor our nation’s servicemen and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. This beautiful ceremony will be held on the lawn across from the Cornelius Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza.

The program will include distinguished guests:

  • Master of Ceremonies – Commander Randy Wally, American Legion Post 86
  • Welcome – Mayor Woody Washam
  • Keynote Speaker – Commander Jim Quinlan, American Legion Department of North Carolina
  • Invocation and Closing Prayer – Pastor David Judge, First Baptist Church of Cornelius

The event will also include:

  • POW/MIA Empty Chair and Wreath of Remembrance ceremonies
  • Patriotic music by Jeff Apthorp
  • 21-gun salute
  • Hough High School JROTC
