Town of Davidson issued the following announcement on Apr. 12.

Earth Day, traditionally celebrated on April 22 since 1970, is a global initiative seeking to raise awareness of environmental issues as well as empower individuals to make change in their daily lives to positively impact the environment. The Town of Davidson invites the community to enjoy its Earth Day activities on Saturday, April 23 at the Davidson Farmers Market between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. 

The Earth Day Fair will feature:

  • Music by Papa Grey Beard
  • Composting information from Crown Town Compost
  • Solar power information from Better Tomorrow Solar
  • Cooking demonstration by Chef Raul of Davidson’s Mestizo Contemporary Mexican Cuisine as well as their new Electric Bike Adventure Co.
  • Recycling information from Mecklenburg County Wipe Out Waste
  • Guidance from DLC/Trees Davidson on how to have a wildlife friendly yard and a giveaway for native pollinator plants and seeds
  • Opportunities for involvement and information about combatting climate change from the Lake Norman Chapter of the Climate Reality Project
  • Information about campus sustainability initiatives and a prize wheel from Davidson College

Support the “Bike/Walk to the Market Challenge” by travelling “carbon free,” and earn your family one Farmers Market buck. Stop by the Davidson Parks and Recreation booth for your prize, and while you’re there, check out the solar-electric E.L.F. bike and learn about Davidson’s sustainability initiatives.

  • Bike/Walk to Town Day- May 7
  • Lake Norman Bike Expo and Community Rides- May 14
  • National Bike to Work Week- May 16-20
