Town of Huntersville issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
The Town of Huntersville will finally be receiving $12 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds after a unified effort by local, state, and federal officials brought to light an unexpected shortfall from the formula used by the US Treasury to calculate funds received by communities.
“We really appreciate the support from Representative Adams and her outreach on our behalf to the Governor and the North Carolina General Assembly leadership, who all worked together in a pretty amazing bipartisan effort to make us whole,” said Mayor John Aneralla.
The initial distribution of funds shorted the North Carolina towns of Huntersville and Apex and another 140 communities with populations over 50,000 by viewing them as “metropolitan” cities, even though they are non-entitlement units of government.
”This process to hold Huntersville and Apex harmless to the Treasury’s interpretation shows just how well our system of government can work when all three levels come together for a common purpose and dedicated service to residents,” said Aneralla.
With equitable funding from ARPA, the Town of Huntersville will be able to invest in post-pandemic infrastructure and other priorities to help the Town’s recovery.
While $12 million is a small portion of the almost $6 billion in the American Rescue Fund, it is a transformational sum for our community.
