TOWN OF MATTHEWS: Noticed Of Demolition at Former Exxon Site
0Comments

Town of Matthews issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.

You’ve probably noticed the demolition at the former Exxon site at the corner of John and Trade Street in downtown Matthews. A few things:

– A developer purchased the lot and is constructing a new building for retail/restaurant space.

– The site is being developed by-right. (By-right means that because the developer is not changing the already approved uses or density of the site – it does not need to go before the Board of Commissioners).

– The developer must submit a site plan to be reviewed by the Town of Matthews Planning Department. The draft site plan is still under review.

– Several trees were removed during the demolition this week. The property owner did not have permission to remove the trees planted in the grassy area between the road and the sidewalk, known as the right-of-way. In this case, it is the NCDOT right-of-way. The Town is currently working with NCDOT to address this matter.

– There are rumors floating around that a roundabout will be built at that intersection. These rumors are untrue. We even triple-checked with NCDOT and they also confirmed – no roundabout!
