TOWN OF MATTHEWS: Pavement Work On Morningwood Drive between John Street and Pleasant Plains Road

Town of Matthews issued the following announcement on Sep 18.

NCDOT contract crews will start a project on Tuesday, Sept. 21 for pavement work on Morningwood Drive between John Street and Pleasant Plains Road.
NCDOT Maintenance has had barricades in place for several months, allowing only local traffic on the road due to its condition. Contract workers will install an additional barricade on each side of the road next week as work commences.
The repairs include a process called full depth reclamation, where worn sections of the pavement are rebuilt by recycling the existing roadway. This method saves money by using existing materials and improves stabilization by providing a low – maintenance surface that will last for years.
This process will take up a week, followed by adding compacted rock to make the surface rideable. Final surface will be put down about two weeks later.
The project is anticipated to be complete in mid – October.
Citizens with questions can contact the NCDOT resident engineer office at 980-523-0080.
