Town of Stallings issued the following announcement on Dec. 2.
Max Hsiang has been hired as the Town of Stallings’ next Planning Director. Hsiang started his planning career working for the Stallings Planning Department but now returns to lead the department.
After an extensive screening process, five candidates were selected for an intensive multi-day assessment process where a team of planning and human resource experts evaluated each candidate on a range of exercises designed to be valid, reliable, and unbiased in assessing the critical competencies required for the position. The assessment exercises were designed following a job analysis and were based on objective behavioral criteria, rather than subjective criteria.
“Throughout the extensive selection process, Max demonstrated the key skills, abilities, and expertise that are essential to the position. Additionally, his emotional intelligence including his ability to listen to different perspectives will be important in helping our community address future challenges and opportunities. We’re excited to welcome Max and look forward to him leading our Planning Department,” said Stallings Town Manager Alex Sewell.
In addition to the Town of Stallings, Hsiang has most recently worked in various planning roles for the Town of Waxhaw’s Planning Department as well as for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Hsiang has experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, permitting, inspections, plan review, project management, downtown support and development, and short and long-range planning in addition to holding a Certified Zoning Official (CZO) certification.
“My planning career started with the Town of Stallings, and I am humbled to be back serving this community,” said Hsiang. “As a Charlotte native and with family living in Union County, I have seen the transformation in the area and recognize the challenges and opportunities that come with the growing region. I will do my best to help serve the Town and its residents.”
