Cdc coronavirus 1000

Town of Cornelius issued the following announcement on Mar. 18.

Cornelius Takes Precautions Amid Growing COVID-19 Concerns

As concern about the global pandemic continues to grow, the Town of Cornelius has taken the following steps to keep the community safe:

TOWN FACILITIES

Effective Friday, March 20, all Town facilities will be closed to the public to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in our community. This includes the following buildings:

•    Town Hall

•    Police Station

•    Fire Stations

•    Animal Shelter

•    Public Works

•    Cornelius Arts Center

While our buildings will be closed to the public, all departments will continue to provide as many of our normal services as possible.

The public may continue to contact staff via phone or email as per usual. Our main front desk line (704.892.6031) will continue to be manned as well.

At this time, all Town of Cornelius parks and greenways remain open. We encourage you to enjoy them while practicing a safe 6ft distance from others, as recommended by the CDC.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Our Police and Fire departments remain ready to serve our community and have implemented the recommended procedures and protocols to handle the COVID-19 crisis.  The lobby of the police station remains open. However, if you have an emergency, please continue to call 911.

TOWN MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES & EVENTS

The following Town-sponsored programs, activities, and events have been canceled until further notice, including:

•    All non-essential citizen board and committee meetings, like the upcoming Architectural Review Board and PARC Commission meetings.

•    The upcoming Cornelius Arts Center Community meeting and Connecting Cornelius Coffee Chats.

•    All special events, arts and fitness classes, and athletic and recreation programs sponsored by the PARC Department. For additional information on PARC programming, review the following press release.

•    All events and activities sponsored by the Police Department (PD), including the Community Shred Event, Coffee with a Cop series, Child Passenger Car Safety Checks and Bicycle, Pedestrian Safety program. Additionally, the PD’s fingerprinting service has been suspended until further notice.

TOWN BOARD MEETINGS & BUDGET WORKSHOP

Our Town Board of Commissioners meetings will continue with minimal staff and social distancing; however, they will be physically closed to the public until further notice. The public will be invited to view the meeting virtually, as per usual.

Town officials also plan to move forward with the FY21 Budget Workshop, with a few modifications. The meeting will now be held at Town Hall on Wednesday, March 25 only, and will also be physically closed to the public. The public will be invited to view the meeting virtually.

Questions and comments for the Board to consider during these meetings may be submitted in advance via email to TownofCornelius@Cornelius.org and will be read into the records during each meeting.

QUESTIONS & MORE INFORMATION

Town officials will continue to closely monitor this rapidly changing situation, and will continue to align with the direction provided by government and public health authorities. We will also continue to evaluate meetings and events scheduled for the next several weeks and adjust accordingly.

Cornelius residents are encouraged to stay abreast of the rapidly evolving situation via reliable sources including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the NC DHHS and the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department (MCPH).

For more information on COVID-19, review a fact sheet provided by the NC DHHS and direct questions to the COVID-19 Citizen Hotline (1-866-462-3821).
