The internet search giant Google released data showing that Mecklenburg residents are largely abiding by the county and state stay-at-home orders.
According to WBTV, Google released a county-by-county peek into North Carolinians's movements on March 29. The analysis compares activity on March 29 to a median value of Sundays between Jan. 5 and Feb. 6.
Data showed a 53% decrease in movements to recreation and retail locations including restaurants, shopping centers and movie theatres; a 25% decrease in trips to grocery stores and pharmacies; a 70% decrease in transit station visits, including bus and train stations; and a 43% decrease in travel to workplaces.
Restaurants and bars were closed for dine-in service by the governor on March 17. Mecklenburg issued a stay-at-home order on March 26. A statewide order followed on March 30.
Data shows that people are spending more time in residences and parks in Mecklenburg. North Carolina officials are looking at cell phone data to determine whether stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures need to be tightened.
