PolyOne Corporation will shutter two facilities in Mecklenburg County as a result of business loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic, company leaders said in a letter to the state.
Plans from the company to close a facility in Pineville and one in Charlotte were given to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Charlotte Business Journal reported on May 27.
PolyOne Senior Human Resources Generalist Lindsey Hudson told the Charlotte Business Journal that closing the two facilities was "a result of the unforeseeable, dramatic downturn in business caused by the coronavirus natural disaster."
The closure will result in laying off 38 employees and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, the Charlotte Business Journal reported.
"All employees currently located at the facilities will be permanently laid off as a result of the plant closure unless they are able to move into another role within the company," Hudson wrote in the notification letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce, according to the publication. "PolyOne Corporation is inviting the impacted employees to apply for other open roles within the organization."
