The FBI is helping the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in an investigation to find the suspect who reportedly injured a local police officer during a protest.
An unidentified protestor threw a soda-can sized firework at a group of officers during protests on May 30 and it exploded, catching the officer's clothing on fire and causing him to suffer second-degree burns, WSPA 7 News reported on June 12. The officer was also struck with shrapnel and lost his hearing for several days following the incident.
Detective Adrian Johnson told WSPA 7 News that other protestors are helping the police department in getting information regarding the suspect.

“We’re trying to progress, we don’t need outside agitators coming in messing up peaceful protests, we want people to be able to get their point across without guys like this messing it up," Johnson told WSPA News 7.
There is a $1,000 reward offered for information that leads to the unidentified protestor's arrest, WSPA News 7 reported.
