Gov. Roy Cooper said on Oct. 22 that four North Carolinians had won NCWorks Awards of Distinction.

The four recipients, including Stephanie Preacher of Raleigh, were recognized during the annual NCWorks Partnership Conference, which was held this year in a virtual format, a release from the governor's office said.

"These award winners are focused on getting North Carolina job-ready, connecting workers to the skills they need as well as employers who need those workers," Cooper said in the release. "Each of these honorees stands out for their contributions to develop our state's workforce and has a big role in helping our state recover from [the] economic challenges that we face."

According to the release. Preacher received the Outstanding Adult Award for demonstrating perseverance and dedication after being laid off from her job, by advancing her career. Preacher completed the CNA II program at Wake Technical Community College in December 2019, obtained a CNA position with UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill and began working full-time in January 2020, and began working as a COVID-19 screener for the N.C. Department of Revenue in September.
