Town of Matthews recently issued the following announcement.
The Town of Matthews Parks & Recreation Department, Charlotte Home Partner Realty/Coldwell Banker, and Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group are hosting the inaugural holiday light competition, “DECK THE HOUSE!” on December 16-20 this year.

Residents of the 28105 Matthews area code are encouraged to deck their homes with lights, lawn ornaments, wreaths, animated characters, and more to bring holiday cheer to families in town. All recognized holidays and their representations are welcome!
The first 25 entries in each of three categories will compete: (1) single family homes (2) apartment homes and (3) condo/townhouse/duplex homes. Registration is free, and the application form can be found at the Matthews Community Center or online at matthewsnc.gov/deckthehouse.
Prizes will be awarded in each category: 1st place will receive a $175 home improvement gift card, a trophy, and bragging rights; 2nd place will receive a $125 home improvement gift card; 3rd place will receive a $100 home improvement gift card. There will also be a Facebook-driven Fan Favorite Award.
Applications will be accepted at the Matthews Community Center/Parks & Recreation offices from November 23 through 5pm on December 7. The center is located at 100 McDowell Street, Matthews NC 28105—check building hours before you go. The application can also be found online at matthewsnc.gov/deckthehouse, and can be mailed to the above address. You may also email it to lamoore@matthewsnc.gov.
Category judging will occur December 16-20, from 6pm-9pm each evening. Winners will be announced via town social media on Tuesday, December 22. The Facebook Fan Favorite voting will continue through December 31, and the list of participating addresses on the “DECK THE HOUSE Home Tour” will be posted on the event webpage at matthewsnc.gov/deckthehouse.
