Town of Matthews issued the following announcement on Dec 15.
Discharge of firearms is not permitted in Town limits.
Although it is hunting season, we wanted to remind all residents of Matthews - per Town ordinance 130.03 it is unlawful for any person (except an officer of the law) to shoot a firearm in the town limits (this includes bow and arrow and crossbow), except in a licensed shooting gallery.
Not only is this illegal (and a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500 or by imprisonment up to 30 days), it is also extremely reckless to discharge a firearm or bow and arrow in a town as densely populated as Matthews. This is the very reason the Town Board voted to stop issuing all firearm discharge permits in January 2019.
