Town of Matthews issued the following announcement on Dec 17.

The Planning Board is a citizen advisory committee that advises both Town staff and the Matthews Board of Commissioners on a variety of growth and development issues. In addition to reviewing planning and policy documents, the Board reviews and makes recommendations on new development plans in the Town. The Board weighs in on numerous issues and delves into a wide range of topics including housing affordability, community aesthetics, tree preservation, open space and transportation.

Candidates should meet the following qualifications:

-Be a Town of Matthews resident enrolled in high school.

-Be available to attend Planning Board meetings at 7:00 pm on the second Monday and fourth Tuesday of each month.

-Be willing to express opinions from a youth perspective in public meetings on new development concepts.

-Be interested in exploring urban planning, public administration, political science or related government fields as a career opportunity.

-Be willing to conduct occasional independent activities, such as interviewing a local representative, spending a half-day shadowing a professional planner, or completing a short research project on a community planning topic, etc., then reporting back to the Planning Board.

Interested students are asked to send a completed application to Planning Director Jay Camp at jcamp@matthewsnc.gov. Applications can be found here.
